Phuket “Cake” Thongsodchareondee was nicknamed for his mother’s favorite craving while she was pregnant with him.
Cake was studying hospitality in Perth, Australia when the tsunami hit Phuket. When he returned to find his mother, May Mazza, he decided to leave Thailand and came to Miami in 2007.
Cake worked at various restaurants, including Makoto in Bal Harbour. One day he was walking and saw a Chinese take-out place on Biscayne Boulevard that was for rent and decided to strike out on his own with the help of his mother.
In a very short period of time Chef Cake has won the hearts of local and passing-by foodies. His small restaurant was recently listed as No.5 on Eater Miami Essential Restaurants and was named Miami New Times Best Thai Restaurant.
